First of all I am Edwin S. Harper and am married to Sharon Kay Kitchen Harper for 42 years. Both my wife and I are the children of apostolic pastors. My parents, the late Rev. James and Ruth Harper built the physical church building for the United Pentecostal Church in St. Albans West Virginia and birthed and built the First Apostolic Church of Nitro, West Virginia. The Church that Sister Harper and I pastor today was pastored for 44 years by my wife’s parents, the late Reverend Greene and Minnie Kitchen, a recognized pioneer in “church Growth and Christian Education”, author and Organizational official and District Superintendent. They grew the Staunton Street Apostolic Church which is now known as Apostolic Life Cathedral, to a large congregation where they built a beautiful facility in Huntington, WV.
We have three daughters, Dr. B. Danielle King, M.D., Holly Huffman B.S., A.I.A. and Heather Dawn Akers L.P.N. They have given us three grandsons, Elliott King, Jyles Goodson and Pierson Akers.
I earned an Associates Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Theology Degree from Texas Bible College (1971), Houston and Lufkin, Texas. I received a Doctor of Divinity degree From Universal Bible Institute (1976), Alamo, Tenn. and Atlanta, GA.
I am a native of West Virginia and except for my time as an undergraduate and 3 1/2 year tenure as a pastor of First Pentecost

I spent 10 1/2 years in Morgantown serving the Riverside Apostolic Church and the past 24 years in Huntington at Apostolic Life Cathedral. I have been a guest lecturer on religion at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, WV and a guest lecturer for business ethics and law at Marshall University Business College, Huntington, WV and often lecture to political science students about the church’s role in balancing moral consciousness in society.
I have served in almost all of the offices of ecclesial bureaucracy from Conquerors’ Secretary to Executive Presbyter of the United Pentecostal Church International. The past 4 years I have worked with West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin III as the Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity where I annually manage federal grants in excess of $150 million. In this adventure I was nominated for the Ash Award, John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
