James Stark was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, and spent his formative years in the hills of eastern Ohio. Until he was in fifth grade, he lived with his maternal grandparents, Pastor J. Harper & Lottie Rose. Life in the Rose household, marked by extensive prayer and fasting, made an indelible mark on Jim’s young life. Jim is a graduate of Linsly Military Institute in Wheeling, West Virginia, Ohio University, and Jackson College of Ministries.
After JCM, he evangelized in Korea for a short time, and returned to the U.S. where he continued to evangelize until 1977 when he married Christine Dunlap. The couple moved to Columbus where they assisted Pastor George Thompson. In 1979, they returned to Jewett to assist Pastor J. Hugh Rose at Harrison Hills United Pentecostal Church. While in Jewett, their three children were born – Jamie in 1980, Heidi in 1981, and Jimmy in 1984. For the next fourteen years, they remained in Jewett.
During part of this time, they also served as interim pastor in Bridgeport. In November 1992 the family moved to Columbus when Jim became pastor of Calvary Apostolic Church. From 1985 till 1995, Jim served as District Foreign Missions Director of the Ohio District. His foreign involvement continues till the present, including crusades and pastors’ training seminars in approximately four foreign fields each year.
Jim and Christine became a grandparents in September 2003, when Isabel Grace Rasor made her debut. Ashton Cole Rasor made them grandparents twice over, in July 2007. Their entire family lives in Columbus, and is involved in the work of Lord at Calvary. In the fall of 2008, the church moved into a new facility, on the I 270 outer belt.
